About City

Italy’s political and religious heart beat- Rome, the eternal city celebrates its long history with priceless works of art, palaces, museums, parks, churches, gardens, villas, piazzas, theatres, restored ruins that offer a glimpse into life during the days of the Roman Empire and so on. With nearly 3,000 years of rich history, Rome is often called the “Eternal City.” But there’s more to Rome than history, fine art and food. The top tourist attractions in Rome include The Colosseum, St. Peter’s Basilica, Pantheon, Vatican Museums, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Roman Forum, Castel Sant’Angelo, Piazza Navona, Campo de’ Fiori. The Colosseum is the largest and most famous amphitheatre in the Roman world with a capability to hold 50,000 spectators through around 80 entrances. Pantheon, one of the best preserved Roman buildings is a place not to be missed.

Random Facts about Rome:

  • The first-ever shopping mall was built by the Emperor Trajan in Rome. It consisted of several levels and more than 150 outlets that sold everything ranging from food and spices to clothes.
  • Rome’s first university, La Sapienza (est. A.D. 1303), is the largest in Europe and the second largest in the world.
  • The Colosseum, originally the Flavian Amphitheatre, took its name from the Latin word colossous, which means “giant statue.” A huge statue of Nero stood near the stadium, giving it its nickname.

Rome’s cityscape is an exhilarating spectacle. A trip to Rome is about relaxing into the city’s Mediterranean rhythms and idling around the picturesque streets.
