21^st World Congress on Gastroenterology, will be organized around the theme “A view through the scope: Gastroenterology and Innovations ”

Gastro 2020 is comprised of 15 tracks and 5 sessions designed to offer comprehensive sessions that address current issues in Gastro 2020.

Submit your abstract to any of the mentioned tracks. All related abstracts are accepted.

Track 1:Gastroenterology

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system. Diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the digestive system. These disorders may affect the esophagus (swallowing tube), stomach, small intestine, large intestine (colon), rectum, liver, gallbladder, or pancreas. Physicians practicing in this field are called gastroenterologists. They perform a number of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including colonoscopy, endoscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasound and liver biopsy.

Track 2:Viral Gastroenteritis

Nontyphoidal Salmonella infection is a common cause acute bacterial gastroenteritis in children. The symptoms of nontyphoidal Salmonella gastroenteritis in infants and children include acute onset of diarrhea, vomiting, fever, abdominal pain, and irritability. Nontyphoidal Salmonella gastroenteritis is a self-limiting disease and resolves within one week in healthy children. However, disease course may be prolonged in children with secondary lactase deficiency or food allergies.

Track 3:Gastric Diverticula

Gastric diverticula represent the rarest of gastrointestinal diverticula. Larger diverticula can lead to symptoms such as upper abdominal pain, nausea, emesis, and dyspepsia. Upper endoscopy is recommended for diagnosing gastric diverticula it confirms the size and location of the lesion. Conservative treatment involves antacids and may provide temporary relief.

Track 4:Gastrointestinal Bleeding

Gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding may be referred to as upper, lower, obscure or occult. Upper GI bleeding commonly presents with hematemesis (vomiting of red blood), coffee-ground emesis and/or melena (black, tarry stools). The black color of melena is the result of degradation of blood by intestinal bacteria. In comparison, hematochezia (bright red or maroon-colored blood per rectum) is usually a sign of lower GI bleeding. It is important to note that a very brisk upper GI bleed can lead to hematochezia as blood passes rapidly through the gut and is not degraded. Upper GI bleeding occurs proximal to the ligament of Treitz. Small bowel bleeding occurs from the ligament of Treitz to the distal ileum. Lower GI bleeding occurs from the terminal ileum and colon. Occult bleeding is bleeding that is not apparent to the patient. The quantity of bleeding is small so that the color of stools is not altered. Patients may present with a positive fecal occult blood test (FOBT) result and/or iron-deficiency anemia (IDA). Chronic loss of small amounts of blood can eventually lead to significant IDA.

Track 5:Endosonography

The endoscope is a thin tube-like instrument that has a light and a lens for viewing. A probe at the end of the endoscope is used to bounce high-energy sound waves off internal organs in the chest, abdomen, and colon to make a picture. Also called endoscopic ultrasound.

Track 6:Gastro Oncology

Gastric cancer is one of the most common human cancer types. Gastrointestinal cancer is a Malignant condition of the Gastrointestinal tract (GI tract) and accessory organs of digestion, including the esophagus, stomach, biliary system, pancreas, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, and anus. The symptoms relate to the organ affected and can include obstruction abnormal bleeding or other associated problems. The diagnosis often requires endoscopy, followed by biopsy of suspicious tissue. The treatment depends on the location of the tumor, as well as the type of cancer cell.

Track 7:Colorectal cancer (CRC)

Colorectal cancer develops in the colon or the rectum, also known as the large intestine the small and large intestine is sometimes called the small and large bowel. Colorectal cancer usually develops slowly, over a period of 10 to 20 years. Most begin as a noncancerous growth called a polyp that develops on the inner lining of the colon or rectum.Colorectal cancers are due to old age and lifestyle factors. Symptoms usually only appear after cancer has grown or spread.

Track 8:Pancreatic Cancer

Pancreatic cancer starts when cells in the pancreas start to grow out of control.Cancers that develop within the pancreas fall into two major categories: (1) cancers of the endocrine pancreas are called "islet cell" or "pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors or PNETs" and (2) cancers of the exocrine pancreas (the part that makes enzymes). Signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer Pain in the upper abdomen that radiates to back. Loss of appetite, Depression, Blood clots.

Track 9:Role of Immune therapeutics in Gastroenterology

Immunotherapy is a type of cancer treatment and also a type of Biological therapy uses certain parts of a person’s immune system to fight diseases such as cancer. This can be done in a couple of ways. (1)Stimulating own immune system to work harder or smarter to attack cancer cells. (2) Giving immune system components, such as man-made immune system protein.

Track 10:Monoclonal Antibodies

Inventing monoclonal antibodies goes to George Kohler and Cesar Milstein. In 1975 both received a Nobel Prize for the discovery. In 1988 Greg Winter pioneered the technique to humanize monoclonal antibodies. Monoclonal Antibodies are antibodies that are made by identical cells. They can then make many copies of that antibody in the lab. These are known as monoclonal antibodies (mAbs). Their wide application in detecting and identifying serum analytes, cell markers, and pathogenic agents has largely arisen through the exquisite specificity of these unique reagents.

Track 11:Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors

Cancer immunotherapy is an example of one of the newer strategies used to fight cancer.A type of drug that blocks certain proteins made by some types of immune system cells, such as T cells, and some cancer cells. These drugs basically take the ‘brakes’ off the immune system, which helps it recognize and attack cancer cells.

Vaccines have been used for many years as a way of preventing certain infectious illnesses. Vaccines are substances put into the body to start an immune response against certain diseases. We usually think of them as being given to healthy people to help prevent infections. But some vaccines can help prevent or treat cancer.

Track 13:Intestinal chloride Secretion

Chloride secretion is the major determinant of mucosal hydration throughout the gastrointestinal tract, and chloride transport is also pivotal in the regulation of fluid secretion by organs that drain into the intestine. Moreover, there are pathological consequences if chloride secretion is either reduced or increased such as in cystic fibrosis and secretory diarrhea, respectively. With the molecular cloning of many of the proteins and regulatory factors that make up the chloride secretory mechanism, there have been significant advances in our understanding of this process at the cellular level.

Track 14:Intestinal Na/H Exchangers

Epithelial Na+/H+ exchange is a pleiotropic membrane transport mechanism that participates in intestinal NaCl transport, in the regulation of basic cellular functions and the extracellular milieu to facilitate other nutrient absorption and to regulate the gut microbial microenvironment. Secretory diarrhea is a leading cause of childhood morbidity and mortality in developing countries.

Track 15:Application of Metabolomics

Metabolomics applied in addition to other "omics" approaches in the study of the pathophysiology of different gastrointestinal diseases. Metabolites represent molecular readouts of the cell status reflecting a physiological phenotype. In addition, changes in metabolite concentrations induced by exogenous factors include environmental and dietary factors which do not affect the genome, are taken into account. Metabolic reactions initiated by the host or gut microbiota can lead to "marker" metabolites present in different biological fluids that allow differentiation between health and disease. Several lines of evidence implicated the involvement of intestinal microbiota in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Also in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). These compositional alterations could play a role in the etiology of both diseases by altering the metabolic activities of the gut bacteria. Before translating a potential metabolite biomarker into clinical use, additional validation studies are required.
